The weather in this part of Kerala is very pleasant all year long. There are two seasons:
A dry season, from December to May. During this period, the day temperature can be as high as 32/33 degrees Celsius. Then the temperature becomes increasingly more hot and dry as the time of the monsoon approaches. By the seaside, where Asthamay Beach resort is located, we always enjoy a nice sea breeze.
A wet season, during the months of the monsoons.
The Southwest monsoon is active approximately from June to August. It first hits the Kerala coast and then proceeds north, towards the rest of the sub continent. The temperature cools off to 24/29 degrees, and nights are mild and cool. The rain begins with daily showers first, then it just rains, sometimes days in a row. The effect of the monsoon is immediately visible on the parched grass and coconut trees and the tropical plants. The monsoon is the season for ayurveda and medical treatments, when plants and herbs are abundant.
In October the North-East monsoon starts, and continues until November.
This monsoon, in realty, is the retreat of the Southwest monsoon that finds its way south after having brought rains to the north of the country.
During the monsoon the temperatures remain in the high twenties, and there are bright sunny days also.
The end of the monsoon brings the hot and dry season. The winter months are considered high season for , when tourists come to get away from the cold and enjoy the Kerala beaches.
